We’re for Communities

Posted by:

We’re often asked, “What is Rotary?” and for years we have said that we are all about supporting our local community in any way we can. Now, there’s a short video that explains all about what Rotarians do every day across the world. Here in Sherwood, we are are proud to say, “We’re for Communities”.

Since our formation in 1993, Sherwood Sunrisers has helped over 20,000 people raised over £250,000 for good causes and donated more than £150,000 to projects supporting our ...

We’re ending polio now

Posted by:

Vaccinations against polio have spared more than 10 million people from the disease – more than 10,000 of these were donated by Sherwood Sunrisers.

Our collective effort to protect children from polio has united the world in a remarkable way. It has brought together UN agencies, governments, foundations, and private businesses as well as the funding and support of a million Rotarians who adopted this global cause as their own. We’re proud to say that we are THIS close to ending polio now- ...

Time to reflect on what we have achieved

In a change to our usual activities on a Tuesday morning, today was our Annual General Meeting and gave us an opportunity to look back over the year of President Kevin and reflect on the massive achievements we have made:

  • Hand tools collected for Tools for Self-Reliance;
  • Over 600 pairs of glasses for Vision Aid Overseas;
  • Donated a cooker, clothes and bric-a-brac to the Friary Drop-in;
  • Provided cream-teas at the United Reform Church;
  • Created a memory cafe ...

Rtn Val Leivers receives highest accolade Rotary has to offer

In what has been described as a momentus moment in Rotary International history, past District Governor Val Leivers was speechless when she was presented her Service Above Self award this year by immediate past district governor Gordon McGlone. Only 150 of these awards are distributed globally every year, and given that there are over 1.2million members worldwide, this really is a great achievement. To say we are proud is an understatement Val, and this award is very much deserved. Congratulations ...

52 weeks, 52 food parcels, 73 young people helped
For as many years as we can remember, we have had a long-standing commitment to support local Charity Base 51 who help disadvantaged young people right here in Sherwood to get back on their feet. About eight years ago, they asked us if we could provide them with some food parcels to give out to young people who were struggling, had no food or needed that bit extra help and we jumped to it.
Since ...

RIBI Presidential Visit

RIBI Presidential Visit

It’s not unusual for us to be visiting local Charity Base 51 to hand over the latest batch of food parcels to support disadvantaged young people, but today we had the extra help of Rotary International Britain and Ireland’s President, John Mininick to help carry them in. Visiting Sherwood Sunrisers for the first time, he was bowled over by the commitment and long-standing support the club has made to Base 51 over the past fifteen years. In that time, over ...
