Time to reflect on what we have achieved

In a change to our usual activities on a Tuesday morning, today was our Annual General Meeting and gave us an opportunity to look back over the year of President Kevin and reflect on the massive achievements we have made:

 

  • 52 food parcels for young people at Base 51;
  • Hand tools collected for Tools for Self-Reliance;
  • Over 600 pairs of glasses for Vision Aid Overseas;
  • Donated a cooker, clothes and bric-a-brac to the Friary Drop-in;
  • Provided cream-teas at the United Reform Church;

Rtn Val Leivers receives highest accolade Rotary has to offer

In what has been described as a momentus moment in Rotary International history, past District Governor Val Leivers was speechless when she was presented her Service Above Self award this year by immediate past district governor Gordon McGlone. Only 150 of these awards are distributed globally every year, and given that there are over 1.2million members worldwide, this really is a great achievement. 52 weeks, 52 food parcels, 73 young people helped
For as many years as we can remember, we have had a long-standing commitment to support local Charity Base 51 who help disadvantaged young people right here in Sherwood to get back on their feet. About eight years ago, they asked us if we could provide them with some food parcels to give out to young people who were struggling, had no food or needed that bit extra help and we jumped to it.

It’s not unusual for us to be visiting local Charity Base 51 to hand over the latest batch of food parcels to support disadvantaged young people, but today we had the extra help of Rotary International Britain and Ireland’s President, John Mininick to help carry them in.
